The crowd of students in the schools of Himachal is less as compared to other states. Along with low student enrolment, the state also has a much better student-teacher ratio (PTR) than the national average. This has been revealed in the 2021-22 report of UDISE (UNIFIED DISTRICT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR EDUCATION).

According to the report, an average of 80 students are getting education in each school of Himachal, while the national average is 178 students. In this context, Himachal’s schools have less than half students. Less than Himachal, 61 students in Ladakh and 79 students in Mizoram are studying in each school.

More than 500 students in schools of many states

On the contrary, there are some states in the country, where more than 500 students are getting education per school. Chandigarh has the highest number of students registered per school at 1153.

Similarly, 814 students in Delhi, 347 students in Puducherry, 396 in Kerala, 358 in Lakshya Island, 295 in Bihar, 290 in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, 202 in Goa, 214 in Gujarat, 254 in Haryana, Maharashtra 206, Punjab 222 in Tamil Nadu and 218 students registered per school.

That’s why less students in Himachal

According to the officials of the education department, due to the schools being opened at different places in Himachal and the population density being low, the enrollment of students in the schools here is much less than the national average.

Similarly, the Right to Compulsory Education Act (RTE) also has a provision to open primary schools in every 1.5 km. Because of this, primary schools have been opened at various places in the state.

In PTR also in top-4 in the country

It is also necessary to have a good PTR (Student Teacher Ratio) for the better education of Himachal students. Himachal’s position in PTR is also very good as compared to the national average. PTR in the country is 28 whereas in Himachal it is 14. That is, there is one teacher for every 14 students.

One teacher for 47 children in Bihar

On the other hand, PTR is 31-31 in Uttar Pradesh and Gujarat and maximum 47 in Bihar. Only 3 states have better PTR than Himachal. These include 10 in Sikkim, 13 in Mizoram and 13 in Ladakh’s PTR.
