Himachal Pradesh reports 10 more cases of Omicron, taking total tally to 25 | Shimla News – Times of India

SHIMLA: In Himachal Pradesh 10 more positive cases of Omicron have been detected. These samples were taken from patients found positive from December 15 to 31 last year but their whole genome sequencing (WGS) reports have been received from National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Friday.
According to the health department official, reports of 127 samples for whole genome sequencing (WGS) have been received from National Centre for Disease Control Delhi. Amongst these WGS samples, mutations have been found in 10 samples.
He said that as per the reports of WGS received, all the 10 WGS samples have been found positive for Omicron. The 10 Omicron cases include 2 cases from Kangra and Bathe districts and these samples were taken from international passengers. The remaining 8 cases were sent from sentinel sites that belong to Kangra district and these samples were taken from patients found positive from December 15 to 31.
He said that till now total 25 cases of Omicron have been found in the State. Initially Omicron variant was reported only in international travellers, but now this variant has been reported from the community also.
