MANGALURU: The Trading capital of the city Bunder in Dakshina Kannada, central market and a few other parts of the city, which form the central business district, remained shut on Thursday due to the voluntary bandh call given by Muslim leaders against the high court verdict on hijab row in Karnataka.
Most of the Muslim pockets in Thokkottu, Ullal, Surathkal, Bantwal, Puttur, Vittal, Sullia, Moodbidri, Belthangady and other interior parts of Dakshina Kannada were also affected due to the bandh call.
Fish trade at the old port in the city was affected and business activities in most of the fish markets were also halted. Majority of Muslim-owned shops and other business establishments remained closed across the district. However, buses, auto rickshaws and other vehicles plied normally in Mangaluru and other parts of the district. Similarly, all government offices, schools and colleges functioned normally.
