In view of the accidents during the Char Dham Yatra, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) will give separate training to the pilots who lift helicopters in the Himalayan region. From this season, during the Char Dham Yatra, a test was started for the pilots carrying passengers on the helipad at an altitude of 10,000 feet. The investigation explored how helicopter travel could be made safer.
7 died in helicopter crash last year
Helicopter carrying pilgrims crashed in Kedarnath. 7 people including 1 pilot have died in the accident. The reason for the accident is said to be bad weather and fog. Due to dense fog, the helicopter collided with the ground. After this the helicopter caught fire.
After this accident, the debris of the helicopter was spread on the hill.
And in April this year, an officer of the Uttarakhand Civil Aviation Development Authority (UCADA) got hit by the tail rotor of a helicopter. He died on the spot after his neck was cut by the blade of the rotor. The DGCA had ordered an inquiry into the incident.
In Kedarnath, a person was killed when the helicopter came in range of the rotor blades.
Kedarnath Yatra has started from 25th April
The Kedarnath Yatra has started from April 25 this year. After the inspection carried out from 20-23 April, DGCA also started helicopter shuttle service from the same day by 7 operators.
Biggest helicopter accident in Kedarnath in 2013
On June 25, 2013, the biggest helicopter accident happened in Kedarnath. That year the state had gone through its greatest tragedy. An MI-17 helicopter of the army crashed during the rescue operation for the people trapped in the flood. Bad weather was said to be the cause of the accident. In this, 20 soldiers including pilot, co-pilot were martyred.
