The last hearing in the case was held on March 22, in which Safoora was allowed to visit Kashmir. On the other hand, Tahir Hussain, who was lodged in Tihar, had filed an application for bail on the same day.

There will be a hearing in the court today against the accused Safura Zargar in the Delhi riots conspiracy case. In the last hearing, the Karkardooma court had given him permission to go to Kashmir to celebrate Eid with his family. Also, he was asked to appear in the court during the hearing.

At the same time, the bail application of AAP councilor Tahir Hussain in a case related to the same riots will also be heard. There are allegations against Tahir of plotting the North East Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat will hear both the cases.

Safura got permission to go to Kashmir for 42 days
In June 2020, Safoora was granted bail by the Delhi High Court. While granting bail, the court had placed a condition that she cannot go out of Delhi without permission. Under this condition, he sought permission to visit his in-laws’ place in Kishtwar, Kashmir, from May 25 to July 5. The court gave him permission to go to Kashmir. Safoora has been made the main accused in the riots at Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University.

What is the matter of violence in Jamia?
In December 2019, some students and local people of Delhi’s Jamia Millia Islamia University started protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Register of Citizens (NRC). These people announced that they will take out a rally till the Parliament.

However, these protests soon turned violent. The police used force to stop them. After this, some of the protesting students allegedly entered the university. After this violence broke out in Jamia University and its surrounding areas. Delhi Police had made 12 people accused in this case including Sharjeel Imam, Safoora Zargar, Asif Iqbal Tanha. Cases were registered against these people under various sections of the IPC, including rioting and illegal assembly.

Tahir locked up in Tihar, 12 cases pending
Tahir has been in judicial custody in Tihar Jail for more than 3 years. He has 12 cases related to riots going on. He had moved bail applications in some cases earlier as well, which were rejected. He was suspended by the Aam Aadmi Party only after his name came up in the riots.

53 killed in riots in North East Delhi
In February 2020, there were riots in North East Delhi regarding CAA and NRC. 53 people lost their lives in this. The Delhi Police had alleged that the riots were carried out under a conspiracy. Therefore, the Special Cell had filed a separate FIR to unearth the conspiracy separately. Tahir was made the main accused in that. Tahir Hussain has sought bail in this case.
