Haryana: Truck Tries To Run Over Magistrate, Cop Who Went To Inspect Illegal Mining In Gharunda

New Delhi: A Haryana deputy superintendent of police (DSP) said that a dumper truck allegedly tried to run over him and SDM Gharunda when they went to inspect illegal mining in the area, news agency ANI reported.

“We got info on illegal mining here in Gharunda. When we came here to inspect, a dumper truck driver tried to run over us. We didn’t suffer any injuries. It appears illegal mining had been done here for the last few days,” ANI quoted DSP Manoj Kumar as saying.

“SDM Gharunda and DSP had gone to inspect report of illegal mining when a dumper truck driver tried to attack them. The mining department and police are taking action on the incident,” Ganga Ram Punia, SP Karnal, said.

It is to be noted that last year, another Haryana DSP, following up on a tip-off about illegal mining in Nuh district’s Pachgaon area, was allegedly run over by a dump truck that he tried to stop, according to reports.

The deceased identified as Surender Singh, DSP of Taruru subdivision in Nuh, died on the spot. He was due to retire in four months.

As per the police, Surender Singh, who had gone to the Pachgaon area after receiving a tip-off, got off the police vehicle when he saw a speeding dumper coming from Aravalli side. “He signalled the driver to stop but the truck ran over the officer,” Shamsher Singh, DSP Punhana, said. The driver fled the spot after the incident.

“He had earlier impounded several dumpers which were carrying illegal mining sand, dust and stone and a crackdown was on,” Punhana further said.

“DSP Taoru Sh Surender Singh laid down his life today in the course of duty. #HaryanaPolice extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family of the brave officer. No effort shall be spared in bringing the offenders to face justice,” the state police had said in a post on Twitter.
