Haryana: Former minister’s son held in attempt to murder case | Chandigarh News – Times of India

PEHOWA: The police have arrested the son of former Haryana agriculture minister-cum-Indian National Lok Dal’s (INLD) leader late Jaswinder Singh Sandhu at Pehowa in Kurukshetra district on Thursday night.
Following his arrest, Gaganjot Singh Sandhu, son of former INLD leader of Gumthala Garhu village in Kurukshetra district was produced in the district court on Friday, which sent him to judicial custody up to January 17.
As per the information, Gaganjot has been arrested in a case (425/2021) registered against him on the complaint of Avtar Singh of Gumthala Garhu under Section 34 (common intention), 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at Pehowa police station on November 21, 2021.
In his complaint, Avtar alleged following a rivalry of a case that he lodged against Gaganjot on November 16, 2021, he in connivance with his accomplices rammed his daughter-in-law Swaranjit Kaur with his SUV when she had left home for a walk in the morning on November 17, 2021. He said SUV’s front tyres had passed over Swaranjit.
Notably, both the parties had lodged complaints against each other following alleged assault and attempt to murder, after which, the Kurukshetra police had registered two cases at Pehowa on November 16, 2021.
In the first case (422/2021) at Pehowa lodged by Avtar, Gaganjot and two others were booked under Section 307, 323, 34, 341 (wrongful restraint), 452 (trespass), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and 27 of the Arms Act, allegedly for opening fire at Avtar and his family members on November 16.
In the second case (423/2021) at Pehowa lodged by Gaganjot, Avtar and his son Tarandeep were booked under Section 285 (negligent conduct of combustible substance), 34 and 506 of the IPC, allegedly for opening fire at Gaganjot.
In the first case against Gaganjot related to firing, he had secured anticipatory bail from the Punjab and Haryana high court and the hearing was pending in the second case.
Meanwhile, the special investigation team (SIT) headed by Kurukshetra additional superintendent of police (ASP) Karan Goel arrested Gaganjot.
Gaganjot’s advocate Karan Chawla said, “The court asked the police to take a dental opinion whether the person’s (Swaranjit) tooth was broken or not. The police sought one day’s time and the hearing was fixed for January 17. As per the FIR, Gaganjot was not even driving the vehicle under which he was made an accused of 307 IPC. The FIR tells that the vehicle was being driven by someone else. It is a politically motivated case.”
On the other side, Gaganjot’s elder brother Jastej Singh Sandhu reached the court complex during the hearing on Friday, framed serious allegations against sitting Pehowa MLA-cum-Haryana sports minister Sandeep Singh of misusing government machinery for falsely implicating his brother in these cases.
Jastej Singh said, “After the registration of this case, we demanded impartial probe from the government and administration. The government people including sitting Pehowa MLA-cum-Haryana sports minister Sandeep Singh misused state machinery to implicate my brother in two false 307 cases. Minister Sandeep is taking us as a challenge as we raised our voice against the corrupt practices in the Pehowa constituency. Rates have been fixed in every office and the public knows the ongoing rate of every work. Gaganjot used to raise these issues and he was active in politics and in an attempt to target him politically we are being targeted. They are taking us as a political challenge for the future.”
Jastej said, “We also supported the farmers during the farmers’ protest and my father had always stood for the public. We have proofs against minister (Sandeep Singh) as he had threatened the complainant of not taking back complaint, in the case against us when we were reaching a mutual consensus with each other.”
