Happy Children’s Day 2022: Cartoon Shows That Take Back To The Childhood Days

New Delhi: Cartoons were a favourite pastime for all of us as kids. Somehow, they had become a part of our lives. We laughed and cried with them, excitedly awaited the airing of our favourite television programmes, and finished our schoolwork as soon as possible to avoid missing any of them. A lot of us had filled up sketchbooks drawing our favourite cartoon characters, and occasionally we had also gathered stickers to cover our walls. Watching the same show over and over again made us laugh even more and they never became boring. Probably, that was all about the simplicity of childhood.

Sadly, several cartoon characters no longer appear on television as a result of the evolution of cartoons over time. Many of us still try to find vintage cartoons on YouTube or other platforms just to see the characters and take a trip down the memory lane. Here are a few cartoons that made us laugh and played a big role in our childhood:

1. Tom & Jerry:

A domestic cat named Tom and a mouse named Jerry compete in comical battles throughout the series. In each episode, the story mainly revolves around Tom’s various attempts to catch Jerry and the ensuing chaos and devastation. Tom rarely succeeds in catching Jerry, mainly because of Jerry’s cleverness, cunning abilities, and luck.  However, they have demonstrated sincere friendship and compassion for one another on a number of occasions. Other times, they put their rivalry aside to work toward a common objective. We had been enthralled by the caricatures of Tom & Jerry and had been thoroughly delighted by their scuffles.

2. Dexter’s Laboratory:

The show centres on Dexter, a little, enthusiastic boy-genius who hides a science laboratory full of inventions in his chamber. Dee Dee, his taller, older, and more outgoing sister, frequently gains entry to the lab and unintentionally thwarts Dexter’s research, which puts them at odds. Dexter and Mandark, a malicious boy genius who bullies Dexter constantly, are fierce rivals and attend the same school. Dexter and his experiments had kept us enraptured throughout our childhood.

3. Popeye-The Sailor Man:

Popeye, a squabbling, wisecracking cartoon sailor, develops superhuman strength after swallowing an always-handy can of spinach and appears pretty muscular, even if it’s just in the arms. He struggles with his hairy, enormous adversary Bluto for the affections of the gangly, uncoordinated Olive Oyl, Popeye’s sweetheart. As children, we had been awestruck by the strength that popeye got after devouring a can of spinach!

4. The Powerpuff Girls:

Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup are the three kindergarten-aged girls with superpowers that take centre stage in the programme. The girls are frequently called upon by the mayor of the city to use their talents to combat local criminals and other foes. They all reside in the fictitious city of Townsville with their father and inventor, a scientist named Professor Utonium.

5. Teletubbies:

The Teletubbies, four colourful figures with television screens on their tummies, are the main characters of the show. The Teletubbies are recognisable throughout popular culture for the distinctively formed antenna that protrudes from each character’s head. They speak gibberish and were created to resemble toddlers. The show is set in a green, floral setting with rabbits running around, and bird cries can be heard in the distance. The “Tubbytronic Superdome,” an earthen residence for the four Teletubbies, is implanted in the ground and can be accessed via a hole at the top or a particularly big semicircular door at the dome’s base. The Voice Trumpets and the group’s anthropomorphic blue vacuum cleaner coexist alongside the Teletubbies in their world.
