Ludhiana: A cop allegedly shot a woman dead before trying to kill himself in a street at Haibowal on Saturday evening. Police are meanwhile investigating the matter before registering a case.
Police officials said Simranjeet Singha head constable was deployed as a gunman with son of a political leader, used to visit the woman’s house, whose husband had been staying in South Africa for about six years. They said the cop used beat the woman and her son.
Woman’s son told cops that the policeman used to boast about his police job and connections.
Police officials said following an altercation on Saturday, the cop allegedly shot the 31-year-old woman with his AK-47 service weapon. They said the woman died on the spot as bullet hit her in the head. Afterwards, the cop fired at himself. The bullet hit his abdomen and he suffered serious injuries. The cop was shifted to DMCH where his condition is said to be serious.
After getting information, senior police officers and cops from Haibowal police station reached the spot and started a probe into the matter.
An area resident, asking not to be named, said the woman had taken the house in Haibowal on rent around one-and-a-half years back, and they used hear loud noises coming from the house as if someone was beating others.
