Gurugram civic body tax arrears Rs 873 crore | Gurgaon News – Times of India

CHANDIGARH: Gurgaon’s tax arrears amount to Rs 873. 93 crore, going by the statement that Haryana urban local bodies minister Kamal Gupta made in the assembly house on Sunday while replying to independent MLA Rakesh Daultabad during the question hour of the ongoing budget session.
The arrears include property tax, shop rent, advertisement fee, and the water and sewerage charges for the existing connections. Of the water connections, 70% are unmetered, so those consumers are sent an average bill, which has made Gurgaon a non-revenue water supply (NRW) system. In his question, Daultabad had sought details about the fiscal health of Gurgaon’s municipal corporation and its recoverable property tax, advertisement fee, and other charges.
In his reply, minister Kamal Gupta said that for the past the two to three years, the civic body had Rs 407 crore in fixed deposit for its capital or operational expenses, while its potential of making revenue from advertisement was Rs 200 crore a year, based on a survey of 6,000-odd government and private sites done earlier this year.
The revenue from property tax was calculated to be Rs 290 crore during the financial assessment year ending 2020. A senior official in the ULB department said: “With time, the civic bodies are becoming self-sufficient and self-earning. So far as recoveries are concerned, this is an ongoing process. Recoveries might slow down but cannot stop. We have different ways of recovering our money. ”
