Gujarat: Man gets death sentence for rape, murder of 10-year-old girl | Surat News – Times of India

SURAT: Special judge for Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act announced death sentence to Dinesh Baisane (24) on Thursday for rape and murder of 10-year-old girl in Pandesara area in December 2020.
Baisane was earlier convicted for the crime on December 10 by the court of NA Anjariya, second additional sessions judge.
Baisane had killed the minior by hitting a brick on her head as she bit him on hand and scratched him on body when he was raping her on December 7, 2020. Total 47 injury marks were found on the body of the minor during post mortem.
“Any crime against children is a priority for police and we will investigate with impeccable quality. Police, medical officers and judicial officers worked as a team for delivery of justice,” city police commissioner Ajay Tomar told TOI.
Earlier, police filed a 232-page charge sheet in court within 15 days of the crime. Police mentioned 69 witnesses and evidence. Among the evidence, DNA profiling of the victim and the accused Baisane were submitted. Police submitted footage of four CCTV cameras in which the accused is seen with the minor.
The scientific evidence included blood stains of the deceased on cloth of the convict, bite injury and scratch marks on the body of convict. Among the key witnesses an auto rickshaw driver and an employee at a vada-pav shop identified the accused.
Baisane kidnapped the minor from her home on December 7 by luring to buy her vada-pav and later raped in an isolated location. The girl fought to protect herself by biting and scratching the hand of Baisane. She shouted for help when the convict hit her on the head with a brick out of fear of getting caught.
The deceased got training ‘good touch, bad touch’ in school provided by police and NGOs. It is believed that due to the training she tried to defend herself.
Both parents of the deceased were working as labourers and they used to drop the minor at a relative’s home nearby during the day time. Baisane was living in the neighbouring home of the relative from where he took her along to buy her vada-pav.
“The prosecution had requested capital punishment and it is an important judgement. It is an important message to the anti-social elements,” said Nayan Sukhadwala, district government pleader, Surat. The court examined 32 witnesses in just 10 days.
(The victim’s identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme Court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
