GST Council Decides to Defer Hike on Textiles from 5% to 12%, Says Report

GST Council Meet: The GST Council has unanimously decided to defer hike in GST on textiles from 5 per cent to 12 per cent, reports said on Friday. The hike was to take effect from January 1, 2021. The decision was taken at the 46th GST Council meet that was chaired by Nirmala Sitharaman on the day.

The matter will be discussed again in the next Council meet for future roadmap, sources told CNBC TV 18. The 46th meeting of the GST Council started at 11 am on the day. Sitharaman is scheduled to address a press briefing at 3 pm regarding the matters discussed at the meeting, as per the finance ministry.
