Thiruvananthapuram: The slew of projects announced in the state budget regarding the state capital has evoked good response from city-based organisations. Trivandrum Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TCCI), Awake Trivandrum (AT), Trivandrum Agenda Task Force (TATF) and Confederation of Kerala Tourism Industry (CKTI) termed the state budget as friendly and growth oriented.
“Emphasis on infrastructure, R&D ecosystem, knowledge economy and tourism will go a long way in advancing the state capital region (SCR) into one of the best developed in the country,” said a joint statement issued by the organisations.
“Allocation of Rs 1,000 crore from KIIFB for outer ring road (ORR) will accelerate the land acquisition process. ORR is expected to trigger a rapid industrialisation of the region,” said S N Raghuchandran Nairpresident of TCCI.
“Upgrading RCC as the state cancer center, allocations for science park, medical tech innovation park and institute of advanced virology are steps that will not only boost the R&D ecosystem, in the state capital, but also across the state,” S N Raghuchandran Nair said.
“Global Science Festival to be held in Thiruvananthapuram will help showcase our capabilities to the world,” said R Anil Kumarsecretary of Awake Trivandrum.
The Rs 50 crore for genomic data center under the Kerala University, Rs 20 crore for translation research center under the Kerala University and Rs 18 crore for National Institute of Speech and Hearing are other major announcements for the sector.
“Kollam IT corridor and center of excellence in aerospace and defence at Technocity will be game changers for the region as a destination for knowledge industry,” said K Srikantsecretary of TATF.
“While the digital university will contribute to building skills in emerging technologies, ASAP skill centre at Kazhakoottam will enhance employability of our youth, to take advantage of the growing needs of the industry,” he said.
The budget allocation for the city includes Rs 26.6 crore for Technopark. “Proposed cruise tourism on the Kovalam – Kollam – Kochi – Mangalapuram – Goa route has the potential to attract more visitors to the region. The outlay for Museum Art Gallery will give a face-lift to the landmark as an important destination for local as well as visiting tourists,” said E M Najeeb, President of CKTI.
“Allocations for Vizhinjam Port, GV Raja Centre of Excellence, manufacture of by-products from effluents at Travancore Titanium products and rejuvenation of Vamanapuram river will make significant impact in the respective sectors,” said Anilkumar.
