Google’s Tool To Repair Pixel Phones And DIY Manuals Coming Soon

In a bid to assist users in identifying issues with their Pixel phones, Google is launching a diagnostic tool. Users can access the app by dialing *#*#7287#*#* on the dial pad, enabling them to verify the proper functioning of their Pixel phone either before or after a repair. The app offers a range of diagnostic tools. Users can conduct a comprehensive diagnostic test to identify issues on their Pixel device, or choose individual tests for physical defects, display concerns, sensor functionality, and connectivity problems. This new tool is accessible on all Pixel phones in English language.

To recall, last year, Google had collaborated with iFixit, paving way for the introduction of enhanced repair features aimed at improving the phone-fixing experience for the Google devices. These upgrades prioritise privacy, accessibility, and user-friendly guidance to streamline the repair process and offer users peace of mind.

“We’re committed to investing in product longevity and repair options for Pixel devices so you can have the best possible experience. In addition to seven years of software and hardware support for Pixel 8 and 8 Pro, we also launched a partnership with iFixit in 2022, so it’s easier to buy genuine Pixel parts and repair your phone with a professional or do it yourself (DIY),” Steven Nickel, Devices and Services Director of Operations, Google, said in a statement.

“Now we’re introducing more repair features that will give you peace of mind if your phone needs to be fixed. Here are three ways we are improving the repair process, including protecting your privacy, providing easy-to-use manuals and making parts and repairs easier to access,” Nickel added.

The Repair Mode feature on Pixel is designed to safeguard the privacy of users and prevent access to their device’s data during repairs. This process eliminates the need for time-consuming backups, wipes, and restores.

By activating this feature, you can protect your personal data, hand over your device for repair, and deactivate it upon its return. Pixel Repair Mode is a crucial measure for ensuring privacy and expediting the repair process.

“In addition to the Pixel software update and repair site, you can now launch the Pixel Diagnostic App from your Pixel phone using the Phone App. This allows you to test your device for issues before and after a repair. You can easily check to see if your phone is properly functioning once it’s repaired.

“For all of your repair inquiries, Google Help is a great place to start. We’ve updated our Help page so you can find resources and instructions to repair your own Pixel. You can also find out how to order parts from iFixit, view repair manuals, run diagnostic tests, and purchase tools and parts that you might need,” Nickel noted.
