Goa polls 2022: BJP deliberates for over five hours on tickets, CEC to finalise names on Wednesday | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: The final list of BJP candidates is just a step away with senior BJP leaders holding a detailed discussion in Delhi, on Sunday, on Goa’s poll scenario and candidacy for 38 constituencies.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Union minister for state Shripad Naik and BJP general secretary (organization) Satish Dhond attended the meeting, which was chaired by BJP national president JP Nadda.
The meeting went on for over five hours.
Speaking to TOI Sawant said that they discussed all constituencies in detail. “The central election committee will meet on January 19 and the first list of candidates is likely to be released,” the CM said.
The preliminary discussion was held based on survey reports, ground reality and names shortlisted by the state election committee and the BJP core committee.
The first list may comprise name of candidates for the Poriem, Valpoi, Sakhali, Mayem, Tivim, Aldona, Mapusa, Saligao, Porvorim, Siolim, Pernem, Panaji, Taleigao, St Andre, Dabolim, Vasco, Fatorda, Margao, Velim, Cuncolim, Navelim, Curtorim, Quepem, Curchorem, Shiroda, Priol and Ponda constituencies.
In some of these, depending on winnability, BJP has decided to drop the sitting MLAs for new candidates.
A senior party functionary said that the first list is finalised based on voting by the karyakartas in a secret ballot, survey reports and ground reality.
BJP on Thursday decided to contest 38 of the 40 seats, leaving out Benaulim and Nuvem. It has more than one aspirant in Canacona, Sanvordem, Sanguem, Bicholim, Mandrem, Santa Cruz and Cumbharjua among a few others.
After the exit of former Calangute MLA Michael Lobo, BJP is yet to finalise a candidate to contest the seat. A senior functionary said Mormugao may be declared in the second list because of the recent controversy over the alleged sex scandal involving former minister and MLA Milind Naik.
Similarly, Savordem may see a delay because of the recent allegation of a job scam in the PWD against minister and MLA Deepak Pauskar. In Cortalim, BJP has not been able to zero in on a candidate after its sitting MLA Alina Saldanha quit.
