Goa: Police dept designates 23 personnel to non-existing station at Mopa | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: The state government is yet to notify the new Mopa airport police station, but Goa police have gone ahead with deployment of personnel at the station without any infrastructure in place.
Goa police issued an order attaching 23 police personnel to Mopa airport police station with immediate effect, even as it is yet to come into existence on paper. The personnel include a police inspector, police sub-inspector, assistant sub-inspector, head constables and constables.
The deployment has come in the wake of the agitation against the construction of the new link road connecting Mopa to NH-66.
As there is no basic permanent infrastructure in place, the personnel will have to sit in container cabins, a senior police officer told TOI.
When contacted, director general of police Indra Dev Shukla said that Goa police has already recommended, but the state government is yet to issue a notification as the model code of conduct for the 2022 assembly elections was in force till Saturday evening.
“As far as the deployment of staff is concerned, administrative functioning such as the setup of police station, including various units like wireless, SHO room, writer room, armoury, traffic unit and security unit — all these take place with minimum infra,” Shukla said.
He said that limited staff have been attached to the police station to ensure familiarisation of the area and also the working. “More staff will be provided once the notification is issued. Presently, cases will be registered at the Pernem police station,” the DGP said.
Shukla said that the new police station will deliver its services to highly sensitive areas, including airport and railway station, besides the state’s border and commercial activities.
