Goa: In chase for Velim ticket, Benjamin Silva joins TMC | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: Upset with Congress for not giving him the ticket for the I would like constituency, former Velim MLA Benjamin Silva resigned and joined the Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Thursday. While joining, Silva made it clear that he is keen on contesting from Velim.
President of the South Goa Advocates Association, advocate Antonio da Costa has made clear that he intends to contest from Velim, but with Silva’s entry into TMC, his candidature no longer seems sure.
Costa was one of the first in Goa to join TMC, travelling with then MLA Luizinho Faleiro to Kolkata to meet West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
Silva is peeved with Congress for selecting Velim sarpanch Savio D’Silva for the seat. Silva, who had returned to the Congress fold in August 2020, has made it clear that he intends to run for the elections.
Silva had quit Congress in 2017 after the party picked Filip Neri Rodrigues. Though Rodrigues went on to win the elections, he subsequently jumped to BJP along with nine other Congress MLAs.
