Goa Election 2022: Police identify 31 criminals in North Goa and 66 in South for externment | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: With the code of conduct in force for the assembly election scheduled on February 14, Goa police is set to act against antisocial elements to ensure free and fair elections. Police have identified 97 criminals for externment proceedings. Police have also commenced with depositing of arms by the public and 98% have been handed in.
“Of the 180 historysheeters identified, Goa police has started externment process against 97 historysheeters, which include 31 from North Goa and 66 from South Goa,” DIG Parmaditya told TOI.
Goa Police has further directed PIs and DySPs to further review and find out FIR cases for externment. “We are also preparing a proposal to issue an order under the National Security Act against those criminals who could disturb the election process,” the DIG said.
Goa police officers and staff have commenced regular foot patrolling and flag march along with the beat staff and paramilitary forces.
Police will conduct area domination exercises in all vulnerable pockets, sensitive, maximum population, coastal and market areas. A special drive is being conducted to execute non-bailable warrants (NBW) and summons, both issued by courts. “There are a total of 120 NBWs and summons and we will execute them within a week,” Parmaditya said.
The department has directed all PIs and staff to visit every polling station and booth to conduct a security audit. Traffic police are conducting a survey regarding traffic congestion and parking at polling stations. “These audits will be completed in 10 days,” the DIG said.
Persons with criminal records and who have the potential to create any nuisance on polling day are also under review. Goa police is in the process of opening new historysheeters against those accused who have two or more cases registered against them.
Goa has a total of 4,334 arms licences. “Ninety-eight per cent of the arms have been deposited in police stations and the rest will be deposited within a week’s time. Every arm stock is reviewed and monitored by Goa police,” he said.
South and North district police and the crime branch have been tasked with controlling all non-criminals, budding criminals, and problem creators.
Special teams have been formed to arrest proclaimed offenders and to seize illegal cash, liquor, drugs, arms and ammunition.
A standard operating procedure (SOP) has been prepared to investigate cases of electoral offences and directions have been given to PIs that PSIs and higher ranking officers will investigate such cases and resolve them in a week. Electoral offenses include defacement of public and private property and violation of code of conduct.
Goa Police is also monitoring interstate border movement. Police and para military forces have been deployed at all border checkposts and CCTVs have been installed.
The crime branch will monitor all criminals who have been recently released from jail or bailed out.
We have asked police officers to take strict action against electoral offenses without fear and favour,” the DIG said.
The quick response team and static surveillance team have been deployed to monitor the model code of conduct or any violation. They have been given vehicles, video cameras and sufficient staff.
“There will be no law and order situation in the state during the polls and counting and a free and fair election will be held,” Parmaditya said.
For any complaints, a redressal system has been put in place, round-the-clock control rooms are functional and a district election cell has been formed in both districts as well as police headquarters.
