Goa assembly elections: Utpal Parrikar to file his nomination papers for Panaji assembly seat tomorrow | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Utpal Parrikar, son of former Goa chief minister Late Manohar Parrikar, will file his nomination papers for the Panaji assembly seat on Thursday. Utpal was denied ticket by the BJP for the seat.
Utpal had resigned from the primary membership of the BJP last week after the party announced to field Atanasio “Babush” Monserrate from the Panaji seat.
Utpal Parrikar had then announced that he will contest the upcoming Goa election from the Panaji seat as an independent candidate.
“I will be contesting as an independent candidate from Panaji constituency. Panjim people voted for Manohar Parrikar all these years because he stood for certain values. I also have those values in me. The time has come for me also to stand up to those values,” Utpal had said.
After BJP’s snub, Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal had offered to field Utpal from Panaji on his party ticket.
The Shiv Sena has also announced support for him.
The BJP, on its part, claimed that the party had offered Utpal two alternative seats, which he did not accept.
