Goa assembly elections: No Congress ticket, Benjamin Silva weighs options in Velim | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: With Congress giving Savio D’Silva a chance to contest from Velim, the state is set for yet another rebellion within the party with former I would like MLA Benjamin Silva expected to put in his papers. Silva, who had returned to the Congress fold in August 2020, was hankering for the party ticket.
Silva had quit Congress in 2017 after the party picked Filipe Neri Rodrigues. Though Rodrigues went on to win the elections, he subsequently jumped to BJP along with nine other Congress MLAs.
Though Silva has yet to formally announce his decision, he changed his Facebook profile, dropping the Congress banner from his profile. The party has put its faith in the Velim sarpanch Savio D’Silva, who has hinted that the former Velim MLA was trying to sabotage his campaign.
“The TMC has reached out to Silva. He is naturally upset because he has been denied the ticket,” said a source.
Sources said that Silva has yet to announce his decision, which is expected in a day or two.
A major ruckus broke out between two groups of Congress supporters in August when the party welcomed Silva back into the party at Congress’ South Goa district office.
The party workers had threatened to resign from their primary membership if Silva was given the Congress ticket to contest the forthcoming assembly elections from Velim.
