Australia took on New Zealand in the final of the T20I World Cup in 2021 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

The Aussies won the toss and elected to bowl first. Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson played a captain’s knock, scoring 85 runs in 48 balls to help his side to a 172-run total.

Maxwell wasn’t particularly impressive on the bowling front as he failed to scalp a single wicket while giving away 28 runs in three overs. During Australia’s batting performance, Maxwell scored an unbeaten 28 runs in 18 balls hitting four boundaries and a maximum.

However, it was his compatriot Mitchell Marsh who displayed a batting masterclass, belting 77 runs in 50 balls to secure the trophy for Australia.

In the same interview, Glenn Maxwell picked Mitchell Marsh as the player to watch out for in the upcoming World Cup in India. “I think he [Mitchell Marsh] is peaking at the right time…I think he is going to take it [the 2023 World Cup] by storm this year”, Maxwell continued.

Glenn Maxwell is not featuring in the ongoing three-match ODI against India. The Aussie cricketer is currently recovering from an ankle injury. Australia’s captain Pat Cummins had updated the press about the fitness of key players of his team. “(Mitchell)Starc won’t be playing tomorrow…same with Maxwell. We are trying to have a balance between getting a match time to everyone in the middle as we are going to the World Cup in a couple of weeks”, Cummins explained in the pre-match conference.

India and Australia’s ongoing ODI matches will be their final bilateral series ahead of the 2023 World Cup. The teams are set to face each other in the opening game of their quest for international glory on October 8. The epic clash will be played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
