Namakkal: A Class IX girl student ended her life by jumping off the terrace of a school building near Tiruchengode here on Saturday. The Tiruchengode police are yet to ascertain the factor that pushed her to take the extreme step. A police officer identified the deceased as 14-year-old S Archanaof Seetharamapalayam in Tiruchengode. She was studying at a government school in the same area.
According to the officer, the girl stepped out of her classroom after telling the teacher that she was about to throw up. The student then headed to the terrace of the school building and threw herself down. She sustained severe injuries in the fall, the officer said. On seeing her battling for life, schoolteachers rushed her to the government hospital, where Archana succumbed to her injuries without responding to treatment.
Ppolice have registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident.
Meanwhile, the girl’s parents and relatives blocked Tiruchengode-Sankari highway, stating something must have happened in the school that pushed Archana to take the extreme step and seeking stern action against the teachers responsible for the same. District superintendent of police pacified them and asked them to lodge a formal complaint.
