The case of 35-year-old Divya Upadhyay, missing from Ghaziabad, has been solved after 7 months. Police have revealed that live-in partner Raman took her with him on the pretext of taking her to Shimla, but seeing the opportunity, strangulated her to death with a chunni in the car and dumped the body on a deserted road in the forest.
The Shimla police had cremated Divya’s body at the same time considering it as unclaimed. However, the Ghaziabad police arrested the accused Raman on Friday.
She went missing on May 19, then the case was opened on the suspicion of the mother.
Divya lived with her live-in partner Raman at a flat in Ghaziabad’s Vasundhara since 2018. A daughter was born to both of them, whose age is now 2 years. There is a motor garage in Raman Ka Tila Mor area. On 19 May 2022, Divya went missing under suspicious circumstances. The next day, on May 20, Raman went to the Indirapuram police station and lodged a missing report claiming Divya as his wife. Although the police could not find out anything about Divya at that time.
Now Divya’s mother Bitto gave an application on 18 December 2022 at Indirapuram police station. According to Bitto, he used to have a phone conversation with Divya every fifth-seventh day, but since May 17, 2022, he has not had any conversation. Raman is also not able to tell them anything clearly about the daughter. That’s why they suspect Raman that he is the one who made their daughter disappear.
On May 26, 2022, Divya’s body was recovered by the Kumarsain police of Shimla, but due to lack of identity, she was cremated as unclaimed.
Truth revealed from mobile location
DCP Deeksha Sharma said, when we traced the mobile location of Raman and Divya, it was found that on May 19, both were present in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Divya’s mobile got switched off for the last time in Shimla itself. The police immediately took Raman into custody and started questioning. Under strict questioning, Raman confessed the whole incident.
Killed by strangulation with sardine, body thrown in the forest
Raman told that he had taken Divya for a trip to Shimla in his Baleno. On May 19, he strangled Divya to death in the car on the way to Coonoor with a chunni and dumped the body on a deserted road.
On May 26, 2022, the police of Kumarsen police station in Shimla district found Divya’s body, but due to lack of identity, her body was also cremated as unclaimed. Now when the Ghaziabad police asked for photographs of the unclaimed dead body, Bitto identified her as Divya.

Raman wanted to leave Divya after marrying another woman
Why did you kill? On this question, Raman said that since 2018, Divya was living with him in a live-in flat in Vasundhara. Meanwhile, Raman marries another woman. Divya came to know about this. The day the two started fighting over this. Raman now wanted to get rid of Divya. That’s why he made a plan to kill her and took Divya to Shimla on the pretext of taking her for a ride and took her there and killed her.
To avoid any doubt, after coming back to Ghaziabad, Raman himself lodged Divya’s missing report. DCP Deeksha Sharma told that the car used in the murder has been recovered. The accused is being sent to jail. Police investigation has revealed that before Raman, Divya had lived in live-in with two other people as well.
