A 19-year-old woman is fighting for her life after falling off a speeding auto while resisting a snatching bid in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. The incident took place Friday afternoon on National Highway 9 (NH-9) near Masuri.

The victim, identified as Kirti Singh, a resident of Hapur and a first-year engineering student at a college near Crossings Republik near NH-9 mobile phone was travelling in an auto when Two motorcycle-born men snatched her mobile phone and fled the scene. Kirti fell down the speeding auto in an attempt to resist the snatching.

According to the victim’s family, she hailed an auto from outside her college. When the auto got on to a flyover on NH-9 near Masuri, two men on a motorcycle caught up with their auto and tried to snatch her phone.

The victim’s brother said she didn’t let go of her phone, fell out of the auto and suffered serious injuries.

The police said the injured was referred from Hapur Hospital to a multi-speciality hospital in Ghaziabad on Friday night.

“The injured student was brought to the hospital on Friday night. Our team of doctors performed surgery on her to remove a clot in the brain. Her condition is serious and she is in the intensive care unit. We will wait for 72 hours to see how she fares,” Dr Sangeeta Garg, chief medical superintendent of Yashoda Hospital in Ghaziabad was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying.

The police noted they were informed about the incident by the family of the victim late Friday night and the police immediately registered an FIR.
