G20 Summit Indonesia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Bali to attend the G20 Summit of the world’s major economies and hold bilateral meetings on its sidelines with key leaders on pressing global issues. The two-day summit begins today, and will be attended by US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak among heads from 20 countries and the European Union who make up the group. Modi, who received a warm and colourful welcome in traditional Balinese style upon his arrival at the airport, said he look forward to having discussions with world leaders on the global issues during his visit. “During the Bali summit, I will have extensive discussions with other G20 leaders on key issues of global concern, such as reviving global growth, food and energy security, environment, health and digital transformation,” Modi had said ahead of his departure from Delhi. “Recover Together, Recover Stronger” – the theme picked by Indonesia when it took over the presidency of G20 a year ago appeared apt at that time for the group of the world’s major economies fighting the effects of the Covid pandemic. But just ahead of the November 15-16 summit of the Group of 20 in the upmarket Nusa Dua area of the resort Island, this slogan – painted on buses and on billboards – seems slightly dated. Russia’s war in Ukraine has piled more economic challenges onto the world, threatening food and energy shortages.
