The 2022 Australian Open finalist Daniil Medvedev saw his hopes at the French Open ended by experienced campaigner Marin Cilic.

Croatia’s Cilic defeated 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 Medvedev of Russia in the fourth round of the French Open on Tuesday (IST).

“It was an absolutely fantastic match from the first point to the last,” Cilic was quoted as saying. “I enjoyed the atmosphere, enjoyed the night session here. I played incredible tennis – one of the best matches of my career from start to finish.”

Medvedev had only recently returned to action after recovering from hernia surgery. In spite of Medvedev’s impressive performances in his first three matches, Cilic dominated the match from start to finish and ended Medvedev’s campaign.

Cilic, who has reached the last eight stage for the third time in his career, will meet Andrey Rublev in the quarter-final.
