Flood wreaks havoc in Assam, over 30 districts affected

Assam’s flood situation remained dire on Saturday, with over 22.17 lakh people still affected across the state. At least 1,934 villages in 27 of the state’s 34 districts are still reeling under floods.

One more death due to drowning has been reported in the Cachar district, bringing the total number of deaths due to floods and landslides to 174 since the natural disasters struck the state in April this year.

The situation improved marginally in some districts, as the major rivers showed a receding trend, though the Brahmaputra, Kopili, Disang and Burhidihing continued to flow above the danger mark in several places.
