Local Trinamool MLA Shaukat Mollah said the police would investigate the matter and take swift action against whoever was responsible.

In another incident at Samserganj in Murshidabad district on Sunday night, Congress worker Arif Sheikh was shot at by unidentified persons. He is seriously injured. After the incident, Congress workers started demonstrating on the streets in Samserganj. Due to which the movement of vehicles was disrupted for several hours.

Samserganj Block Congress President B Shaikh alleged that Trinamool was behind the incident of unprovoked firing. The Trinamool denied the allegation, saying the firing incident happened due to rivalry and had nothing to do with politics.

According to police reports, 10 people have been killed so far in rural election-related violence in West Bengal since the filing of nominations began on June 9.

Meanwhile, at least 10 people were injured in clashes between CPI(M) and ISF supporters on one side and Trinamool supporters on the other in Paschim Medinipur district on Sunday.

The incident took place in Chandrakona’s Krishnapur area in the morning when Trinamool members tried to put up party flags and faced resistance from opposition workers.

Another police officer said 10 injured people from both the camps were admitted to hospitals where they are undergoing treatment, their condition is said to be stable.
