Fire at Rohingya camp in Nuh, 30 shanties gutted | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: A fire broke out in a Rohingya refugee camp in Noah on Wednesday. Around 30 shanties were destroyed in the blaze. While no loss of life was reported, the fire displaced nearly 100 people. A short circuit is suspected to have started it.
Fire department officials said the fire broke out around 8.30pm on Wednesday in Chandeni camp 2 in Ferozepur Namak village. Three fire tenders were rushed to the spot. Meanwhile, the fire spread, and it took firemen nearly two hours to douse the flames.
Kamal Hussain, a refugee who works as a daily wager, said his shanty was burnt down and they spent the night in a nearby madrassa. “Last night (Wednesday), all of us slept in the madrassa. The women and children slept inside and the men who couldn’t be accommodated slept outside in the biting cold,” he said.
Like the other refugees, Hussain lost everything he possessed in the fire, including clothes, documents and other essentials. “We are now left with only the clothes that we are wearing. Everything else has turned into ashes,” said Hussain.
Deputy commissioner Shakti Singh said they have given dry ration for 15 days to the affected families.
“We offered a school building to them, but they refused it saying some people living across the road will accommodate them there. We gave them 100 blankets and are serving cooked meals three times today. We have also given construction material to help them build shanties,” Singh said.
