Finance Ministry issued clarification on GST: GST will not be levied on packets of more than 25 kg of flour, rice and pulses

Packaged and labeled food items like flour, pulses, cereals have come under the ambit of GST from Monday. However, there will be no GST on their packing of more than 25 kg. Less than this, 5% GST has been applied on the weight. The Finance Ministry on Monday issued a clarification on questions related to GST. It has been said in this that if the retailer brings goods in packs of more than 25 kg and sells them in the open, then GST will not be applicable.

GST will be levied on the products whose supply is being packaged. For items like curd, lassi, this limit is 25 liters. Earlier, 5% GST was levied on rice, wheat, pulses and flour when they belonged to a brand. Goods that are packaged and labeled will attract GST. On the other hand, traders have become against GST.

The GST on transportation of goods and passengers through ropeways and certain surgical instruments has been reduced from 12 to 5 per cent. Trucks, vehicles used for transportation of goods will now attract 12 per cent GST. Earlier it was 18 per cent.

Currently, there was no GST on hotel rooms less than Rs 1000, but now such rooms will also attract GST at the rate of 12%.
