In the next 5 days, many parts of the country may be in the grip of cold wave. The Meteorological Department has predicted a cold winter in North India, Saurashtra and Kutch on Thursday. The department said in its daily bulletin that the temperature is set to drop in some parts of the country. Cold wave conditions are likely to occur over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Saurashtra and Kutch from December 17 to 21. From December 18 to 21, the same situation will prevail in North Rajasthan and from December 19 to 21 in West Uttar Pradesh.

During the next 4 to 5 days, the minimum temperature is likely to drop by 2-4 degree centigrade over most parts of Gujarat, except Northwest and Central India. This fall will be 2 to 3 degree centigrade over East India and Maharashtra. Dense or very dense fog has been predicted for the next two days in Punjab and Haryana. Very dense fog conditions will also occur over Northwest Rajasthan, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura on December 17.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 8.7 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning. The Meteorological Department has also predicted light cloud cover and rain. Due to this the mercury will come down a few degrees in the next two-three days. The day’s maximum temperature on Thursday was around 22 degree Celsius. The Air Quality Index was 350 ie very poor at 8 am.

Coldest day of the season in Gulmarg
Cold wave has intensified in North Kashmir. Tourist place Gulmarg has recorded the lowest temperature of this season. In the skiing resort, the mercury reached minus 10 degrees Celsius. However, there is some relief in the south and central areas of the valley.

Srinagar recorded a low of minus 2.1 degrees Celsius on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday. This was an increase of 1.8 degrees from the previous night’s minus 3.9 degrees Celsius, which was the coldest temperature recorded in the summer capital this winter. The minimum temperature in Pahalgam, the base camp of the Amarnath Yatra, was minus 6.9 degrees Celsius.

Chances of snowfall in hilly states
According to the Meteorological Department, there may be light rain and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh in the next three days. Snowfall is also expected in Uttarakhand on Thursday or Friday.
