These five were arrested in Ritu’s murder. Father Umaid in the red circle along with brother. Both have been hanged.
In a case of honor killing in Haryana’s Sonipat, the court on Monday sentenced the father and son to death. Both had brutally murdered the daughter after kidnapping. When they went to kill the young man, he saved his life by running away.
It has been told that Arjun of Garhi Hakikat village used to live in his maternal uncle’s house in village Khandarai. There he started a love affair with Ritu (22) of Khandrai village. Ritu and Arjun run away from home and have a love marriage. Ritu’s relatives were angry with the love marriage. He had killed the girl after getting the opportunity.
Arjun had told the police on 7 September 2019 that Ritu had married him of her own free will. The girl’s relatives had filed a case against her, but Ritu had given statements in the court that she had married of her own free will. His family members were very angry after this.
Ritu fell ill one day. He called Ritu’s sister Anjali. He talked about getting medicine in a private hospital in Gohana. When he reached Gohana with Ritu, his mother Samo and his sister Anjali met him. Both of them told him that they feed Gol Gappa to Ritu. His wife refused, but he insisted and took her with him. Later he had kidnapped Ritu.
After that Ritu’s brother Sandeep, Ajit, Bunty arrived with sharp weapons in their hands. They tried to kill Arjuna, but he managed to escape. He had told her that Ritu was punished for doing a love marriage, now let’s tell her too. After this he saved his life by running away.
Police had arrested Ritu’s father Umed Singh, brother Sandeep alias Kala, Ajit, Bunty, Amit alias Sarpanch in this case. Now Sonipat’s ADJ Shailendra Singh has given death sentence to Ritu’s father Umed Singh and brother Sandeep in this case.
