JAIPUR: Bone-numbing wind from the country’s northern parts swept Rajasthan as minimum temperature in Fatehpur and Churu was recorded below freezing point for the second consecutive day on Sunday.
The minimum temperature in Sikar, Karauli and Chittorgarh districts was also recorded below freezing point on Sunday, it said.
Fatehpur recorded -4.7°C, whereas Churu saw the second coldest day with -2.6°C, the MeT said.
However, the Krishi Anunsandhan Kendra situated on the outskirts of Fatehpur recorded a minimum temperature of -5.2°C. According to records, it was likely the all-time lowest minimum temperature recorded in Fatehpur.
Sikar recorded -2.5°C followed by -0.6°C in Karauli and -0.2°C in Chittorgarh on Sunday night, weather officials said.
Bhilwara recorded 0°C followed by 0.1°C in Pilani, 0.2°C in Nagaur, 0.4°C in Alwar, 1.5°C in Banasthali and 1.8°C in Sangaria.
Almost, all 36 places where weather is observed by regional MeT department, the minimum temperature was recorded below 9°C on Saturday night. The maximum temperature was recorded between 18°C and 26°C at most of the places.
Attributing the continued dip in mercury to the active northerly winds and vanishing of upper air cyclonic circulation and western disturbances, Jaipur Met office said from Tuesday onwards, there will be mild relief from severe cold wave conditions. “There will be a minor rise in minimum and maximum temperatures in the state from Tuesday,” said an officer with the Jaipur Met office.
On the varied minimum temperatures in Fatehpur, director of Jaipur Met office Radhey Shyam Sharma said, “We have started an observatory this year in which we have recorded a minimum temperature of -4.7°C and the observatory of Krishi Anusandhan Kendra situated at some distance recorded -5.2 °C.”
“The state is under the grip of severe cold wave conditions. There is a possibility of rise in temperatures from Tuesday onwards,” said Sharma.
People in Jaipur woke up to the coldest morning of the season at 4.5°C, almost five degrees below normal.
