Today (Saturday) has been five days since the murder of Taylor Kanhaiyalal. Since this Taliban massacre, curfew has been imposed in the entire city. There is a boil all over the country. As a precaution, the government has taken a tough decision of even netbandi with section 144. The incident which shook the whole country, the eyewitnesses of the same incident have come on camera for the first time.
Ishwarlal (45), an artisan working at Kanhaiyalal’s shop, is still in MB Hospital. Another artisan, Rajkumar (50), is at home. In view of the atmosphere, the security of his house has been increased. When the murder happened, both of them were in the shop. After the massacre, both the artisans appeared on camera for the first time. These people shared with Bhaskar an eye-witness account of the vandalism that took place on June 28. The prince had left from there shortly before the incident.
Ishwarlal is currently admitted in Maharana Bhupal (MB) Hospital, Udaipur. He was with Kanhaiyalal during the attack. Ishwarlal, who came to save Kanhaiyalal, was attacked by the accused on the head and shoulder. He was also seriously injured.
We were screaming, hitting my head and shoulders
Ishwarlal works with Kanhaiyalal for about 4 years. Even on 28 June, Ishwar was still at the shop. Ishwarlal told- Gauss and Riyaz came to the shop as customers at around 2.30 pm. I was working. Asked to measure kurta-pyjama. Seth ji (Kanhaiyalal) left all the work and started taking measurements. Then one of the accused suddenly attacked Seth ji. Seth started crying. Looking back, both Riyaz and Gauss were attacking with a knife. The prince was also with me. When I came to the rescue, he attacked me in the head and shoulder. I shouted loudly, but no one came to save me out of fear.

Rajkumar works at Kanhaiyalal’s shop for 8 years. Rajkumar told- Kanhaiyalal was getting very upset due to the threats. Out of fear, CCTVs were installed. My family is scared after the sudden attack that day. Kanhaiyalal had also apologized for registering the case by Nazim. After this a woman and a man came and told a lot. Kanhaiyalal said with folded hands – We have apologized for the mistake made inadvertently. A compromise was reached. You will ask the Sadar Shakeel Bhai of your society. After that the men and women went away.
Rajkumar and his wife Pushpa. Both told that now they are scared to even step outside the house. How can you do this to a person who had apologized?
Rajkumar says – Nearby shops were rarely open. Kanhaiyalal, Ishwarlal and I were in the shop. We were frightened by the sudden attack. I came out first. Within no time Kanhaiyalal came out covered in blood. He had died. Even after this, the accused mercilessly attacked him about 5 to 6 times. Everyone got scared seeing this. No one dared to come forward.
Rajkumar told that his entire family is in shock after this murder. The daughter is to be married after 6 months. A few days before the incident, when Kanhaiyalal was told about the marriage, he talked about help. I do food delivery work at night. Now I am scared that what if something happens to me and my family?
Nothing happened to me, so no one even helped me. Now by becoming a witness in such a big case, he will not be able to work openly. Rajkumar’s wife Pushpa told that they have a son and a daughter. The whole family is shocked after this accident. Now I am afraid to even go in the street. Took it out for a few days, but don’t know what will happen next. Police is making us witnesses, but no one has come to help yet.
