Arvind and Shivam were the first to reach the spot after 11 people died due to gas leakage in Ludhiana on Sunday morning.

In Punjab’s Ludhiana, 11 people died due to gas leakage on Sunday morning. Apart from 5 women and 4 men, two children are also included in these. Shivam and Arvind were among the first youths to reach the spot after the accident on Sua Road in Gyaspura area. When Dainik Bhaskar team spoke to both the eyewitnesses, they told that when they reached near Goyal Kariana store, 7 people were seen lying on the ground together. Some people were calling for help but it was so difficult to breathe in the air there that the mind became numb. Somehow gathered courage and tied a handkerchief etc. on the face. Had we not done so, we too would have been found lying there on the ground.

The accident took place at the Kariana store and milk booth running in a building on Sua Road near Gyaspura Industrial Area in Ludhiana. Eyewitness Arvind told that his house is just 150 meters away from the spot. Being Sunday, he was going to play cricket early in the morning with his friends. Around 6:30 when he reached in front of the milk booth in the street, people were seen lying here and there on the ground. At first glance, it seemed that it might be a case of road accident. Some people were calling for help. Within a few moments, we also started gasping for gas and it started getting dark in front of our eyes. At that time only the sound of people shouting for help could be heard.

According to Arvind, somehow he gathered courage and ran away from there so that he could breathe. After reaching about 50 meters away from the spot, he started feeling a little breathless. He then narrated the incident to other people standing in the street and informed the police. Police PCR reached the spot within about 10 minutes. When some policemen went directly inside the shop, they too felt dizzy. The rest of the policemen immediately removed them away from there. After this, the work of removing the people lying on the road was started by calling an ambulance.

Shivam said – Acidic water comes from the industry
Shivam, who was present with Arvind, told that his house is about 300 meters away from the spot. There was a strong stench in the air since Sunday morning. Often the industrialists pour acidic water in the sewerage, so in the beginning he thought that perhaps this stench was coming from him.

According to Shivam, after being told by Arvind, he quickly reached near the Goyal Kariyana store to help people and found 7-8 people lying on the ground. Three-four people were lying just outside the shop. At the same time, he started having severe burning sensation in the eyes, difficulty in breathing and itching in the throat. So he quickly moved away from there. There probably some gas was formed due to the reaction of sewerage and chemical.

Shivam said that often during the rainy season, some industries in this area release the acidic water of the factories into the sewerage. Poisonous water is always accumulated on the road due to which the people here are suffering from skin diseases. If someone passes through rain water once, then itching does not go away from the feet for a week.
