Expectations hurt: Gujarat Titans star Rahul Tewatia reacts after India snub for Ireland tour

Gujarat Titans star Rahul Tewatia expressed his disappointment after being ignored from India team for the upcoming two-match T20I series against Ireland later this month.

Hours after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the T20I squad, Tewatia posted a cryptic tweet. The 29-year-old said “Expectations hurts”, hinting his disappointment after being overlooked by the Chetan Sharma-led selection committee.

The 29-year-old played the role of a finisher for IPL 2022 winners Gujarat Titans. The new entrants won the title in their maiden season under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.

Tewatia scored 217 runs at a strike rate of 147.62 in 16 matches for Gujarat Titans.

India will play two T20Is against Ireland on June 26 and 28 in Dublin. The team will be led by Hardik Pandya, while Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been named as vice-captain for the series. The power-packed squad includes the likes of Rahul Tripathi and Sanju Samson.

Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh, who are waiting for their debut against South Africa, have also found their places in the squad. Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer won’t feature in the series as they will join the Indian team in England for the fifth Test.

VVS Laxman will be India’s head coach on the tour of Ireland. He would be assisted by Shitanshu Kotak (batting coach), Sairaj Bahutule (bowling coach) and Munish Bali (fielding coach).
