The dates for the election for the post of Vice President in the country have been announced. The election for the new Vice President will be held on 6 August. The counting of votes will take place on the same day and the results will be out on August 6. The notification for the Vice Presidential election will be issued on July 5. Nomination papers can be filed till July 19. After this, the scrutiny of nomination papers will be done on July 20, while the nominations can be withdrawn till July 22.

Venkaiah Naidu’s term ending on August 11
The tenure of the current Vice President of the country, Venkaiah Naidu is ending on August 11. Before this, the process of election of the new Vice President of the country will be completed. According to Article 68 of the Constitution, the process of election of a new Vice-President has to be completed before the completion of the term of the current Vice-President.

The members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha participate in the election of the Vice-President. All the nominated members are also involved in the election. The program for the Vice Presidential election was finalized in a meeting of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and Election Commissioner Anoop Chandra Pandey.

Presidential elections are to be held in the country on July 18, the results of which will be declared on July 21. The NDA has fielded Draupadi Murmu for the President’s post while the United Opposition has fielded Yashwant Sinha.
