New Delhi: Muslims all across the world are celebrating Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, also known as Mawlid or Eid-e-Milad today. The event commemorates Prophet Muhammad’s birth anniversary. He was born on the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal. This year it is being celebrated from the evening of October 8 to the evening of October 9 with great enthusiasm across the country.

People are exchanging wishes and are celebrating this occasion with friends and family. President Draupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have also taken to Twitter and greeted the nation on the occasion.

President Drupadi Murmu tweeted, ” On the auspicious occasion of Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad, I extend my greetings and good wishes to all fellow citizens, especially to my Muslim brothers and sisters. Today, let us all take inspiration from the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him), and resolve to continue working for the progress of the country with mutual harmony.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings as he wrote: “Best wishes on Milad-un-Nabi. May this occasion further the spirit of peace, togetherness and compassion in our society. Eid Mubarak.”

Apart from the President and the Prime Minister, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has also tweeted to wish the country on this auspicious occasion. He tweeted, “Eid Milad-Un-Nabi Mubarak! May this auspicious occasion bring peace, harmony, good health, and prosperity to everyone.”

Twitter was flooded with the wishes of other leaders as well. Captain Amrinder Singh, Pinarayi Vijayan, Kiren Rijiju, and Nitin Gadkari were among the eminent political personalities on wished their followers on social media.
