Dr. Rajendra Prasad Medical College, Tanda, Himachal has finally given admission to MBBS to Divyang student Nikita Chowdhary. On the orders of the Himachal High Court, the college had to admit Nikita. With this, Nikita has become the first wheel chair user of Himachal Pradesh to take admission in MBBS.

The medical college had earlier refused her admission citing rules due to her disability. Her plea for justice had gone unheeded by the previous government as well. Umang Foundation raised its voice against the injustice done to him and the matter reached the High Court.

The college refused to admit Nikita and gave her seat to someone else.

The petition was filed in the High Court on 12 November
On November 12, Umang Foundation filed a petition in the High Court seeking justice for Nikita. A division bench of High Court Justice Sabina and Justice Sushil Kukreja ordered the government to immediately admit Nikita Chowdhary in Tanda Medical College. After this, Director of Medical Education Prof. A high-level meeting of principals of medical colleges was held under the chairmanship of Rajneesh Pathania, in which the order of the High Court was asked to be followed.

nikita’s seat was given to someone else
Tanda College denied admission to Nikita and gave her seat to Shambhavi in ​​general quota. Now the seat allotment had to be reshuffled to give seat to Nikita. Shambhavi has been shifted from Tanda to her original allotted medical college at Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College, Mandi. Chakshita Singh from Mandi has been sent to Dr. Radhakrishnan Medical College in Hamirpur and from there Ankita has been sent to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College in Chamba.

Nikita’s disability certificate rejected
Chairman of Umang Foundation and expert member of State Disability Advisory Board, Prof. Ajay Srivastava told that Nikita Chowdhary of Sarotri village, Tehsil Baroh of Kangra district has passed NEET exam this year. He is a wheelchair user due to disability. The Medical Board of Kangra had given him a certificate of 75% disability. Nikita was supposed to get a state quota MBBS seat in Tanda Medical College on the basis of merit, but the college refused to admit her citing rules.

Against the rules in Tanda College medical done again
Ajay told that Tanda Medical College went against the rules of NEET and got Nikita medical again and made her disability 90% in the certificate. There she was also told that how would you be able to walk in a wheelchair while studying. The Medical Board of Kangra and the authorized Board of the Medical College, Chandigarh had not declared his disability as ‘progressive’. The board of Tanda Medical College wrote on the certificate that his disease is progressive, which means it may worsen in the future.
