Dhanteras 2023: Shopping Muhurat, Puja Date, Time And All You Need To Know

Dhantrayodashi, also known as Dhanteras, marks the commencement of the five-day Diwali festivities. It is the day when Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the churning of the Milky Sea. Consequently, on this auspicious Trayodashi day, Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, is venerated along with Lord Kubera. Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the Lakshmi Puja performed on Amavasya, two days after Dhantrayodashi, holds greater significance.

To perform Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras or Dhantrayodashi, it is recommended to do so during the Pradosh Kaal, which commences after sunset and typically spans around 2 hours and 24 minutes. It’s essential to avoid selecting Choghadiya Muhurat for Dhanteras Puja, as those Muhurtas are primarily suitable for traveling purposes. The most favourable time for Lakshmi Puja on Dhanteras is during the Pradosh Kaal, coinciding with Sthir Lagna, a fixed, non-movable ascendant. Conducting Dhanteras Puja during Sthir Lagna ensures the presence of Goddess Lakshmi in your home, making it the ideal time for the Dhanteras Pujan. Vrishabha Lagna, considered as a Sthir Lagna, typically aligns with the Pradosh Kaal during the Diwali festivities.

Significance Of Dhanteras:

Dhanteras Puja is also known as Dhantrayodashi and holds dual significance. It not only marks the beginning of Diwali but also serves as Dhanwantari Triodasi or Dhanvantri Jayanti, celebrating the birth anniversary of the God of Ayurveda, Dhanwantari. Additionally, Yamadeep is a ritual observed on this Trayodashi Tithi when lamps are lit outside homes to appease the God of death, Yama, and protect family members from untimely demise.
