During the interrogation in ED custody, it was being said by the officials that Nawab Malik was not cooperating in the interrogation.

The ED custody of Maharashtra government minister Nawab Malik, arrested in a money laundering case related to buying land from the family of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has extended till March 7. He was again produced in the court after getting medical done sometime back. There has been an argument for almost two hours in the court regarding Malik’s further custody. Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh appeared on behalf of the ED, while Amit Desai and Tarak Sayyed represented Malik.

During the hearing in the court, Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh has placed a confidential statement related to the 1993 bomb blasts before the court. The ASG asked the court to extend his custody by six days, saying that Malik’s statement could not be recorded as he was ill and admitted to the hospital. Considering this, the court has extended Malik’s custody by four days.

Update of today’s hearing in court

  • Anil Singh said that we have given the statement of Haseena Parkar’s son to the court, apart from that the statement of the accused who is in jail has also been handed over to the court. We cannot tell this information to everyone right now.
  • In the money laundering case, there are still many people to be questioned as well as the transaction information and investigation is to be done. Who are the people involved, some money has not been given to the original owner, there are many such issues.
  • He further said that due to ill health, the complete inquiry could not be done, the new information that has come further has to be investigated. Hence the need for 6 days custody.
  • On this, advocate Amit Desai, appearing for Nawab Malik, said that we have challenged this matter in the High Court as well. On reading the remand application, what I had said at the time of last hearing is proving to be true.
  • Now it is only in the hands of the court whether they should be granted bail or not. On the front page of today’s remand application, it is written that it is a continuation of the previous remand application.
  • The last time the ED was told in the court that there was a link between Nawab Malik and the underworld gang, it was said that he had an active involvement on terror funding.
  • Alleging giving Rs 55 lakh to Haseena Parkar, it was called a terror fund, but today you see what has been said in the ED’s application.
  • Today the ED says that last time the talk of Rs 55 lakh was a typing mistake and it is only Rs 5 lakh, but on the basis of this application, he was sent to the custody of the ED, someone should think 20 times before arresting, After gathering all the facts, some action should be taken. ED needs to do homework.
  • Desai further said that if the ED wanted, it could have gone to the hospital and inquired, but it was not done on their behalf.
  • Now the ED says that they have an important role in money laundering, they told the statement of any arrested person to the court. Desai further said that its information cannot be shared with everyone. They can keep the details of the investigation confidential, but this transaction has been openly talked about in this morning’s paper.
  • This matter has already been written in The Times of India, and now it is being told confidential in the court. The Times of India has written that Nawab Malik has grabbed another land in Kurla and the ED has got its papers. Now that the investigation is going on in the matter, then how did it go to the newspaper.
  • ED says in court that we can tamper with evidence, so we will not be informed about it, but how does media get information before court?
  • It has appeared in today’s newspaper. What I said last time, I am saying the same today.
  • This is not a case of money laundering, today remand has been sought. There is no need for arrest or custody, it is being done intentionally.
