CWG 2022: Historic Gold In Lawn Bowls, Silver In Badminton Mixed Team. Check India’s Tally

CWG 2022: It can be said that it was another good day for India at the Commonwealth Games (CWG) as four medals came in on Day 5 and two in the colour of Gold. India’s medal tally after the end of the fifth day of the competition at the Commonwealth Games stands at 13 medals — five gold, five silver and three bronze — India is currently at the sixth spot.

Australia with 42 Gold medals (106 medals in total) lead the CWG 2022 medals table at the end of Day 5, followed by host nation England with 32 Gold medals (86 medals in total) and New Zealand at the third spot with 13 Gold medals to its name.

On the fifth day of Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, the women’s lawn bowls team claimed the country’s first-ever medal, and that too in the shape of Gold, by winning the ‘fours’ final beating South Africa 17-10.

The other Gold medal for India on Day 5 of CWG 2022 came through the men’s table tennis team event. The men’s team beat Singapore in the final to bag India’s fifth gold medal in Birmingham Games 2022.

Vikas Thakur claimed the silver in the men’s 96 kg weightlifting. The mixed badminton team lost to Malaysia in the final to settle for the silver medal.

Day 5, Results – India At CWG 2022

The women’s hockey team suffered a 1-3 defeat against England in a Pool A match.

In the track and field events, Anees Yahiya and Murali Sreeshankar (men’s long jump), Tejaswini Shakar (men’s high jump) and Manpreet Kaur (women’s shot put) qualified for the finals. Dutee Chand, however, failed to make the women’s 100m final.

In boxing, Rohit Tokas defeated Ghana’s Alfred Kotey in the men’s welterweight division to enter quarters.
