বProtests continue on Calcutta University premises demanding online exams. College Street was abuzz with protests on Friday. However, the university has informed that the syndicate will decide on June 3 whether the examination will be held offline or online.

After last Saturday, the Calcutta University campus was abuzz with student protests on Monday. Then last Thursday also the students protested on the university premises. As Vice Chancellor Sonali Chakraborty was leaving the campus of Bandyopadhyay University, students surrounded his car and protested. That trend of demonstrations continued even today. Students protested by closing two gates of the university on that day. No one was allowed in or out of the university. Police from Jorasanko police station came to the spot after 4 pm and made arrangements to open the gate. The students’ protest continued even after the police opened the gate. The slogan for online testing continues. When the students of the university went out of the car, the students stopped the car thinking it was the vice chancellor’s car. The police came and removed the protesters. Then the car can get out.

The students demanded that the vice-chancellor should talk to them. This movement will continue till the Vice-Chancellor calls them and accepts their demand for online examination. Earlier, a 12-member delegation wanted to meet the Vice-Chancellor last Thursday. But the Vice-Chancellor did not meet them. According to the vice-chancellor, 50 per cent of the principals of colleges affiliated to the university have decided in favor of offline examinations. The issue will be decided at the meeting of the syndicate on June 3, whether it will be conducted online or offline.
