covid: Nearly a dozen policemen in Jharkhand test Covid positive in recent surge | Ranchi News – Times of India

RANCHI: The surge in Covid cases in the state has not spared policemen, who are working as frontline warriors to check the spread of the viral disease apart from their law and order duty.
DGP Niraj Sinha said around a dozen police personnel, including additional director generals and inspector generals, have tested positive and have mild symptoms only. He said, “The officers are expected to join their duty soon. As a precautionary measure, the working strength at the police headquarters has been reduced to 50%. Half of the manpower works in the morning and the remaining in the afternoon.”
On the preparedness of police to help the health department in checking the spread of the Covid infection, the DGP assured that almost the entire force is vaccinated as a safety measure for the personnel so that they do not contract the infection and do not infect others. He informed that a precautionary dose will be administered soon.
Sinha stressed that the orders issued by the deputy commissioners, who are heads of the disaster management authorities in the districts, would be implemented by the respective superintendents of police.
So far, 7,830 police personnel have tested positive since April 1 2020. Of them, 7,742 personnel have recovered while 44 have died. Those infected included 29 IPS officers, 10 assistant superintendents of police, 79 deputy superintendents of police, 177 inspectors, 722 sub-inspectors and 625 assistant sub-inspectors.
The state police force is 69,454 personnel strong and at least 67,999 of them had taken their first dose by the third week of December last week.
