Cop moderately injured while responding to domestic violence call in northern town

A police officer was moderately injured after being stabbed in the chest while responding to a domestic violence call in the northern town of Nahf.

Police were called to the scene by relatives of a 61-year-old man who they feared would harm himself or others in the home after he barricaded himself inside, wielding a knife.

Police said that the suspect feared his family would check him into a psychiatric hospital against his will.

Officers from the nearby Majd al-Krum police station breached the home and managed to subdue him but not before he stabbed one of the cops who then responded with gunfire that lightly injured the suspect.

The suspect was taken to the Karmiel police station, where a team of paramedics evacuated him to a nearby hospital for further medical treatment.

The injured 44-year-old officer was evacuated by paramedics to the Galilee Medical Center.

No other injuries were reported in the incident.
