CWC meeting
The move comes just two days after the Congress Working Committee (CWC) held a five-hour meeting where leaders urged Sonia Gandhi to continue to lead and initiate fundamental ground-level changes required to strengthen the party.
“The CWC unanimously reaffirms its faith in the leadership of Sonia Gandhi and requests the Congress president to lead from the front, address the organisational weaknesses, effect necessary and comprehensive organisational changes in order to take on the political challenges,” it had said after the meeting.
Another round of CWC meeting is scheduled to identify the points that will be taken up in a Chintan Shivir, which the party said it will hold after Parliament budget session ends.
Earlier in the day, Congress general secretary in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi Vadra held a review meeting with senior leaders and office-bearers of the state unit over the party’s dismal performance in the assembly polls.
Sources said the meeting discussed threadbare the performance in each constituency in UP, where the Congress won only two seats out of 403 and got a vote share of 2.33%. The party will chalk out its roadmap for the state where it contested without any alliance after many years, said sources.
In the recently concluded assembly polls, the Congress failed to oust the BJP from Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, and could not retain power in Punjab, which was swept by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).
