Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the discussion of Uniform Civil Code (UCC) at the party’s program in Bhopal on 27 June. He said- People are being instigated on the Uniform Civil Code. A house cannot run by two laws. BJP will clear this confusion.

After the Prime Minister’s advocacy of UCC, the Parliamentary Committee on Law and Order has also called an important meeting on July 3 for opinion-consultation on this. At the same time, the Central Government has also announced to convene the session of Parliament from 20 July.

After AAP, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, now BSP supremo Mayawati has also supported UCC. He said- his party is not against the Uniform Civil Code. But the constitution does not support its imposition. We have disagreements on the BJP model of implementing UCC. BJP is trying to do narrow minded politics through UCC.

Here, on Saturday, the Congress also called a meeting of the Parliamentary Strategy Group (PSG) at Sonia Gandhi’s house at 10 Janpath. Party spokesperson Jairam Ramesh said- On June 15 itself, we had said that Uniform Civil Code should be implemented in the country only with the consent of all the parties.

Muslim organization of Kerala against UCC
Kerala’s Muslim organization Samastha Kerala Jam-Iyatul Ulama has also opposed the UCC. The organization’s president, Mohammad Jifri, said that not only Muslims, but also other religions like Christians, Buddhists and Jains would not be able to accept the Universal Civil Code. He said that among Muslims, marriage, divorce and inheritance are part of religion. Some rules and regulations have been made for them, which have to be followed.
