Panaji: Congress supported those protesting in Mayem over the poor road conditions and erratic water supply while also extending support to the contract workers employed by GMR Airports to construct the new greenfield airport at Mopa.
Congress MLA and general secretary Yuri Alemao said that caretaker chief minister Pramod Sawant must immediately intervene and resolve the concerns that led to the protest. “It is the duty of the government to provide proper roads and water supply to citizens and pay timely salaries to workers. It is unfortunate that the agitating Mayem sarpanch along with villagers and a photo journalist are arrested, and that workers at Mopa are compelled to aggressively agitate,” Alemao said. “I, along with my Congress functionaries, stand in complete solidarity with the Mayem villagers,” he said.
The Cuncolim MLA said that the protests have proven the careless nature of the government. “The insensitive BJP caretaker government continues with its carelessness and compels workers to aggressively agitate demanding their salaries,” he said.
