A video of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee dancing with a group of tribal women went viral on Wednesday. Mamata Banerjee, who is on a three-day visit to Alipurduar in North Bengal, participated in a mass wedding ceremony and blessed newly-married couples.
The video of Mamata Banerjee’s dance was shared on the Trinamool Congress’ official Facebook page. In the video, Banerjee is seen giving gifts to couples and blessing them. She then joins a group of tribal women for a dance peformance as an adivasi song plays in the background.
In a tweet, the TMC said, “At a mass wedding programme in Alipurduar, Mamata Banerjee blessed the young couples. Being part of the magnificent ceremony, she wholeheartedly celebrated and expressed her desire to see our Adivasi brothers and sisters achieve great heights of success.”
Last year too, Mamata Banerjee was seen performing a tribal dance and playing drums at Jhargram in an event to commemorate World Tribal Day. Banerjee, who had donned tribal attires on top of her saree, was seen dancing to the beats of jhumur, a hand instrument used by tribes in West Bengal and dhamsa, a specific type of drum.
Speaking at the event in Alipurduar on Wednesday, the TMC supremo, taking a swipe at the Centre, said common people were being fooled by promises like creation of separate states and various welfare schemes ahead of elections. “But those never materialise later,” PTI quoted Mamata as saying.
Banerjee also said people were suffering due to the “daily price rise” of essential commodities. “Today, have you seen how much gas prices have been hiked? Where is the ‘Ujjawala’ scheme? It has vanished in thin air. Again when the elections will be around, they will promise you to create a separate state, another ‘Ujjawala’ scheme or purchase of tea gardens,” the Bengal CM said.
“They talk big before the elections. And look what is happening now, the present state of the country and how price rise is affecting the common people,” Banerjee said.
