CM, KPCC chief condemn murder of SFI activist | Thiruvananthapuram News – Times of India

T’puram: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday said the murder of SFI activist Dheeraj Rajendran as extremely sad and condemnable. He said the government will not allow anybody to trigger riots on college campuses. The CM said strict instructions have been given to the police to bring all culprits in the murder before the law. The chief minister said he shared the grief of Dheeraj’s family and friends.
Meanwhile, higher education minister R Bindu called for an end to what she called ‘anti-Communist’ politics that takes the lives of students.
“The murder at Idukki Painavu Engineering college was carried out by Youth Congress workers from outside the campus. It was a planned and joint attack,” she said.
The minister said strict action would be initiated to see that no such brutal political murders happen on any campus.
“The college union election was held peacefully. There was no tension on campus. One student died and another is in hospital with serious injuries. The heathen nature of right-wing politics has once again surfaced,” she said.
The minister also claimed that SFI had never harmed any student or family whenever the propagators of right-wing politics butchered SFI activists.
“The only thing SFI did on these occasions was to lower the white flag at half-mast,” she added.
KPCC president K Sudhakaran who condemned the murder, however, accused CPM of unleashing violence across the state in connection with the campus murder.
“I strongly condemn the murder of SFI worker. Strict action should be taken against those involved in the murder. Police did not make arrangements, considering the possibility of violence,” said Sudhakaran. He said Congress never advocated violence.
Meanwhile, here authorities sought a report over the murder at Painavu college.
“As a fallout of the violent incident, a team of university officials consisting of pro-vice chancellor Dr S Ayoob, dean academic Dr Sadiq, syndicate members Sanjiv and Dr Vinod Kumar Jacob will visit the college to assess the situation. The university also directed the college to suspend further proceedings related to the election,”said Dr M S Rajasree, KTU vice-chancellor.
